How to change a bathtub spout. A replacement tub spout is an inexpensive fix to your diverter dilemma and you can change it to match your bathroom decor. Then if your bathtub spout does show any signs of bad conditions you should replace it with the new one. Bathtub spouts can go bad in three ways. Place the new delta tub spout on the pipe threads and turn clockwise to attach.
1 lay a towel in the bottom of your bathtub beneath the spout. On threaded models the spout uses an internal female threaded fitting that screws over a male threaded fitting on the end of the stub out pipe. Replacing your tub spout is easy. A threaded spout also called a screw on spout has threads that fit over the end of the stub out pipe.
Place a towel over the spout and continue tightening with adjustable pliers so that the spout is tight to the wall and the opening faces downward into the tub. A bathtub is an important place as it is used for both physical and mental cleansing. It provides a decorative cover for the pipe stub delivering water to the bathtub and it directs the water away from the wall where it could cause damage. A tub spout does two things.
A set screw secures the spout to the pipe. A slip on spout is made to slip onto the water stub out pipe attached to the wall plumbing. Thus there is no doubt that you should check the bathtub spout frequently. Second the threads inside the spout can crack or corrode where the spout screws onto the pipe.
A slip on spout fits over the top of the water stub out pipe and is secured to the stub out pipe with a set screw. First the tub spout diverter can wear out so it no longer blocks the water flow and sends water to the shower head. Typically tub spouts use either a slip on or threaded design. It cost around 10 to 20 for a new tub spout depending where you are buying from and takes only 5 to 10 minutes to replace the old spout with a new one.
This is a simple task that anyone can do.
